Bitcoin’s return to $100,000 is looking increasingly doubtful before 2027, at least in the eyes of prediction market traders. Polymarket assigns just a 27% probability to the milestone this year, while Kalshi’s October forecast sits at $87,000. With bitcoin trading near $83,416 on Tuesday, Oct. 13, traders are pricing in a far greater chance of another retreat toward $80,000 than a spectacular six-figure comeback this month.

Bitcoin’s six-figure price ambitions are getting a cold reception from prediction markets, where traders are putting real money behind decidedly modest expectations. On Oct. 13, Polymarket participants assigned just a 27% probability to bitcoin reaching $100,000 before 2027, while the odds of touching that milestone before November stood at a paltry 2%.

Meanwhile, Kalshi’s October forecast pointed toward $87,000, hardly the fireworks bullish investors might have anticipated. With bitcoin changing hands near $83,416, the betting crowd appears more concerned about defending $80,000 than reclaiming the cryptocurrency’s former six-figure territory.

The numbers paint a sobering picture. The prediction marketplace Polymarket ‘s 2026 bitcoin price market, which has attracted approximately $75.1 million in trading volume, gives bitcoin a 64% chance of reaching $90,000 before year’s end. At $95,000, confidence slips to 43%, while $100,000 commands just 27%. The odds deteriorate further at higher elevations, with $110,000 priced at 12% and $120,000 at 7%.

The downside isn’t getting a free pass, either. Traders assign a 37% probability to bitcoin touching $70,000 before 2027, while $65,000 carries 23% odds and $60,000 sits at 15%. These contracts measure whether bitcoin touches a specified price before expiration, not where it finishes the year. That’s an important distinction when interpreting the numbers.

The shorter-term picture looks even less hospitable to bitcoin’s bulls. Polymarket’s October price market, with roughly $6.3 million in trading volume, assigns an 80% probability to bitcoin’s price touching $85,000 before November. However, the odds drop to 50% at $87,500, 32% at $90,000 and just 10% at $95,000.

A return to $100,000 this month? Traders give that proposition a mere 2% chance. Meanwhile, bitcoin has a 57% implied probability of touching $80,000 and a 33% chance of sliding to $77,500. A retreat to $75,000 carries 21% odds. In other words, traders are assigning better odds to a $7,500 decline from the $83,416 reference price than to a $6,584 advance toward $90,000.

Over at the prediction market Kalshi , the October bitcoin forecast stands at $87,000, down approximately $2,970 from its earlier reading. The platform’s $789,873 October event places the probability of bitcoin exceeding $87,500 at 49%, while $90,000 commands 35% and $92,500 attracts 22%.

Kalshi’s separate year-end market, which has recorded more than $41.3 million in volume, currently projects $83,554. It’s displayed settlement brackets assign 14% to a year-end finish between $80,000 and $84,999.99, compared with 12.7% for $85,000 to $89,999.99.

The longer-term betting crowd isn’t ready to bury bitcoin’s $100,000 ambitions. Polymarket’s milestone market assigns a 48% probability to bitcoin reaching six figures by March 31, 2027, rising to 58% by June and 70% by Dec. 31, 2027. Prediction market prices reflect traders’ collective expectations, not guarantees, and can change abruptly as new information arrives.

Still, the contradiction is striking. Traders give bitcoin a 70% chance of reaching $100,000 by the end of 2027, yet only a 27% chance before 2026 expires. The six-figure dream hasn’t received the ax, but the betting crowd appears increasingly willing to push its arrival into another calendar year.
