Elon Musk has quietly financed a major canvassing operation to help Republican candidates in the midterm elections that rivals his effort in the 2024 presidential election, according to federal filings posted Thursday night. To monitor the trillionaire’s overall influence on November’s elections, WIRED created a l ive-updating tracker that pulls federal filings daily.
The Musk-aligned America PAC has spent $76.7 million in the third quarter of 2026, $35.8 million of which has been spent on a field operation to drive turnout among President Donald Trump's core base across all seven Senate battleground states and a number of House races, the filings show.
That compares with the roughly $45 million America PAC had spent on putting together a field operation at the same point in the 2024 cycle, when the super PAC effectively ran the vast majority of canvassing for Trump's presidential campaign.
In short, Musk has assembled a presidential-level field operation this midterm cycle, underscoring the extent to which he has taken over the get-out-the-vote effort for the party and created something of a shadow Republican National Committee. With three weeks until Election Day, the total contributions are only set to rise even higher.
Canvassing has been America PAC’s largest expense, ahead of the $23.7 million it spent on a combination of digital ads mostly attacking Democrats, campaign literature, and phone bank efforts.
But in an effort to save Republicans' Senate majority, Musk also gave $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC supporting the GOP's candidates in that chamber. The same amount appears to have been funneled into Texas PAC, which was registered with the FEC in August 2026 and is backing embattled Republican candidate and Texas attorney general Ken Paxton.
Musk has been particularly focused on the Senate race in Texas this midterm cycle, where he has extensive personal and business interests. Musk lives near Austin and his businesses SpaceX and Tesla are based in the state. Musk accounted for nearly 60 percent of the $273 million that the Senate Leadership Fund raised for Texas PAC.
The stunning war chest that Musk has unleashed into all seven battleground Senate races and, to a lesser degree, a number of competitive House races, makes him the largest known donor in the midterms among both Republicans and Democrats.
Since its inception, America PAC has relied primarily on outside firms to conduct paid canvassing, in which people are hired to knock on the doors of likely Trump or Republican voters to remind them to register to vote and vote early.
The super PAC has used mostly the same contractors as in the 2024 cycle, the filings show. The biggest canvassing contract went to Blitz Canvassing , a subsidiary of the political affairs firm GP3 Partners, which helped stand up America PAC.
The other vendors listed in America PAC’s filings were the firms Patriot Grassroots LLC, The Synapse Group, In Field Strategies, Echo Canyon Group, Threshold Strategies, and GEG Strategies LLC. All but the last two also worked for America PAC in 2024.
Going into the final stretch of campaigning, America PAC has more than $12 million remaining, though Musk, the richest man in the world, may contribute more to his PAC as required.
America PAC has spent in 40 races in 17 states since July. The Texas Senate race drew the largest share, in which Musk’s team has spent $15.3 million attacking Democrat James Talarico and $3.5 million supporting Paxton.
The super PAC has also spent about $5.3 million attacking Democrat Sherrod Brown in Ohio’s Senate race against Republican Jon Husted and $3.5 million attacking Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, who is running against Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan, according to the WIRED tracker.
