The Munich firm's compact Agile ONE SN is built for university labs, with production planned to begin by the end of 2026

Agile Robots wants to put a humanoid in the research lab, and it wants to build a lot of them.

The Munich-based robotics company plans to produce 1,000 to 2,000 humanoid robots in 2027 , all running on Nvidia technology. The announcement came alongside a new, smaller model aimed squarely at universities and research institutions.

On October 21, 2026, Agile Robots SE unveiled the Agile ONE SN. The company describes it as a compact humanoid reference platform built for research work.

The SN stands 1.4 meters tall. It weighs approximately 34 to 43 kilograms, depending on configuration.

The spec sheet includes 31 degrees of freedom. It also gets dexterous five-fingered hands and integrated cameras.

The SN’s cameras and onboard processing run on Nvidia’s Jetson Thor computing platform. Nvidia is also contributing its Isaac GR00T foundation model.

The partnership centers on standardized pairings of hardware and software.

Agile Robots is pitching the SN to prestigious academic institutions. Stanford University and ETH Zurich are among the names the company is targeting as customers for the research edition.

The SN is not the company’s first humanoid. Agile Robots debuted its full-size Agile ONE model in November 2025.

The plan now is to start production of both the standard Agile ONE S and the SN variant by the end of 2026. Output is projected to land between 1,000 and 2,000 units in 2027.

Agile Robots was founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center, known as DLR. Its workforce sits somewhere between 2,300 and 3,500 employees.

Following a SoftBank-led funding round in 2021, the company was valued at around $1 billion. Its investor list includes SoftBank and Xiaomi.

Agile Robots is aiming for revenue of approximately €640 million in 2026. The company counts NEURA Robotics among its competitors in the European humanoid market.

The key milestones to watch are clear. First, whether production of the Agile ONE S and SN actually begins by the end of 2026 as planned. Second, whether named institutions like Stanford and ETH Zurich become confirmed buyers rather than targets.

Third, where 2027 output lands within that 1,000 to 2,000 range. And finally, whether the company hits its approximately €640 million revenue goal for 2026.
