The AI server maker's early first-quarter numbers blew past its own forecast and lifted Dell, HPE and Nvidia along with it

On October 20, 2026, the server maker released preliminary figures for its fiscal first quarter, which ended September 30. It now expects revenue between $18.5 billion and $19.5 billion , well above its earlier guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion.

Wall Street responded the way it usually does when a company raises its own bar this much. Shares jumped by approximately 12% to 16% in after-hours trading, after the stock closed the regular session at $32.47.

The analyst consensus was sitting at approximately $15 billion before the update.

Super Micro tied the surge to strong demand for its AI server solutions. Those are the racks of hardware that hyperscalers and enterprises use to train and run artificial intelligence models.

The company lifted its gross margin outlook to between 12% and 12.5%, up from a prior estimate of 10.4% to 10.8%.

The company credited a favorable mix of customers and products for the improvement.

Super Micro also pointed to a record order backlog. It set fiscal 2027 revenue targets at $65 billion to $72 billion.

Shares of Dell Technologies and Hewlett Packard Enterprise each rose more than 5%, and Nvidia shares climbed as well.

Dell and HPE compete with Super Micro for the same server contracts. Nvidia supplies the chips that go inside many of those machines.

Companies do not usually pre-announce results unless the gap with expectations is large. Super Micro chose to get ahead of its full earnings report, which suggests it wanted the market recalibrated sooner rather than later.

Preliminary results are still early figures. The final report will add detail on segment performance, cash flow and the composition of that record backlog.

For Super Micro shareholders, the update reframes the story in two ways. Revenue is running well ahead of what the company itself expected, and profitability per dollar of sales is improving at the same time.

The fiscal 2027 target of $65 billion to $72 billion now becomes the benchmark. Each quarterly report from here will be judged on whether Super Micro stays on pace to land inside that window.

The things to watch are straightforward. First, whether the final quarterly results confirm the preliminary range. Second, whether gross margin lands in the 12% to 12.5% band. Third, whether competitors report a similar lift in AI server demand when their own numbers come out.
