The XRP Ledger [XRPL] is expanding beyond payments as tokenization, stablecoins, and AI-driven transactions create new demand for blockchain infrastructure.

Speaking at the Evernorth XRPN Nasdaq listing event on the 18th of October, Ripple’s CTO Emeritus, David Schwartz, highlighted these use cases.

We’re going to have to be able to solve problems that ordinary people actually have.

This includes payments, investment access, and connections to existing financial systems.

On-chain data shows data that suggests that there is already some early evidence of activity. According to recent data, the total amount of Ripple USD [RLUSD] issued is approximately $1.03 billion, and the total value of all stablecoins on the XRPL network is approximately $1.11 billion.

As a result of this data, it appears as though the XRPL network has already demonstrated an ability to support significant settlement-related activity outside traditional payment use cases.

Unless institutional users continue to increase their usage of the XRPL network, many potential use cases of AI and tokenization will likely continue to be in a state of infancy.

Use cases for the XRPL indicate that demand for blockchain-based technology is increasing. Despite that, institutional adoption will ultimately depend upon both better access to the market for institutions and reliable financial service offerings.

Ripple’s Chief Legal Officer, Stuart Alderoty, during the Evernorth Nasdaq event, emphasized regulatory clarity as being foundational to broader participation.

He stated that having clearer regulations would help decrease uncertainty and promote broader institutional participation in XRP and blockchain-based finance.

Evernorth commenced trading on the 12th of October, under the ticker symbol XRPN. At commencement, Evernorth held approximately 473 million XRP and sold approximately $300 million in gross cash from the sales of its shares.

However, rising institutional inflows, custody balances, and recurring transaction volumes must confirm whether these services translate into sustained adoption.

Building on the growing list of institutions using Ripple’s platform, the next hurdle is demonstrating how those relationships drive real-world activity on XRPL.

David Schwartz framed 2027 as an opportunity to determine if those institutional connections lead to actual day-to-day use of blockchain technology through transaction volume, active users, and other metrics.

XRPL currently processes over 2.9 million transactions per day, and there are about 39k active addresses, and it has a stablecoin supply totaling approximately $1.11 billion.

These numbers represent a basis point for measuring the increase in future transactions. The addition of new clients from Ripple’s planned integration of its treasury and prime brokerage platforms could result in additional settlement activity taking place on-chain.

However, sustained growth in the number of active users, the transfer of stablecoins, and the creation of new tokenized assets can demonstrate if the expanded institutional relationship leads to increased long-term demand for XRPL.

Ripple adoption is expanding across stablecoins, tokenization, and AI, but sustained XRPL activity must confirm demand.

XRP institutional growth could boost XRPL by 2027, with rising transactions and asset transfers key to proving adoption.
