The VanEck Lido stETH ETF is officially dead. VanEck Digital Assets filed a Form RW with the SEC on October 14, 2026, formally withdrawing the registration statement for its proposed VanEck Lido stETH ETF.

The firm cited Rule 477 of the Securities Act of 1933 and confirmed it no longer intends to proceed with the planned distribution of the Trust’s shares.

The registration never became effective. No securities were issued or sold.

VanEck first registered the Lido Staked Ethereum Trust as a Delaware statutory trust in early October 2025.

Days later, as CoinGape reported, VanEck submitted the S-1 to the SEC, becoming the first issuer to file for a U.S. ETF tied directly to stETH.

The product was designed to track the MarketVector Lido Staked Ethereum Benchmark Rate index. It would have let investors gain liquid staking exposure through standard brokerage accounts.

Markets reacted warmly at the time. The VanEck Delaware registration sent LDO, the governance token of Lido DAO, up more than 7% in a single session.

Ethereum price also drew analyst attention off the back of the filing, with some calling the move a catalyst for ETH’s next leg higher.

Exactly one year later, that promise is gone. The Form RW, signed by VanEck Vice President Matthew A. Babinsky, gives no commercial, regulatory, or market reason for the withdrawal.

It simply states the Sponsor “does not intend to proceed.” No preliminary prospectus was ever distributed. The filing’s file number, 333-290918, closes with nothing to show.

The VanEck Lido stETH ETF withdrawal removes the only proposed regulated U.S. channel for pure stETH exposure. But investors are not left without options.

Interactive Brokers launched Ethereum staking for eligible clients through Zerohash, giving mainstream brokerage users direct yield access without needing an ETF wrapper.

Meanwhile, Standard Chartered opened direct ETH trading via bank accounts, widening institutional access further.

On the ETF side, native or partial staking is advancing inside existing Ethereum products. VanEck itself added staking to its BNB ETF earlier this year, naming Figment as validator.

That move signals the firm’s appetite for staking yield, just not through a dedicated stETH wrapper. The SEC also approved 3x leveraged Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, a sign the regulator is moving forward on crypto ETF structures more broadly.

Corporate ETH accumulation continues too. BitMine added 12,532 ETH last week, bringing its staked ETH position to over 5 million tokens.

That kind of institutional appetite points to a market that does not need a VanEck Lido stETH ETF to stay engaged.

The bigger picture is structural. As ETHSpain 2026 highlighted , the next chapter for Ethereum is infrastructure, not products built around it.

A pure stETH wrapper inside a U.S. ETF may have offered little incremental value as native staking matures across brokerages and existing funds. VanEck appears to have reached the same conclusion.
