Mechanism Capital reportedly moved roughly 7 million Ethena [ENA] tokens to KuCoin, days after announcing its Series A investment in Ethena.
The transfer drew attention because the firm had publicly expressed confidence in Ethena’s long-term prospects.
The subsequent exchange deposit raised questions about the firm’s intentions as ENA’s market conditions weakened.
Exchange deposits can precede token sales, introducing concerns about potential selling pressure. However, the movement alone did not confirm that Mechanism Capital had sold the tokens.
Selling pressure extended beyond the reported institutional deposit, with ENA’s spot and derivatives markets showing similar conditions.
According to CryptoQuant , Ethena’s Spot Taker Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) showed seller dominance at press time. This indicated that aggressive spot sell orders exceeded aggressive buy orders over the observed period.
Meanwhile, Futures Taker CVD also showed seller dominance, reflecting similar activity across leveraged markets.
Together, these readings supported a bearish outlook for Ethena. Buyers would need to absorb that selling pressure to reduce the risk of further weakness.
ENA’s derivatives positioning, on the other hand, presented a different story despite the persistent seller dominance.
As per Coinglass analytics , ENA’s OI-Weighted Funding Rate stood positively at 0.0032% at the time of reporting. The positive percentage suggested that the long positions continued paying short positions, implying a bullish bias.
Additionally, Binance’s top trader Long/short Ratio stood at 1.59, strengthening the preference for bullish positions.
To be specific, the long accounts accounted for 61.39% of the total positions, while short accounts represented 38.61%.
These figures therefore reflected a notable divergence between bullish positioning and aggressive selling across spot and futures markets.
Despite the long traders maintaining their numerical advantage, the seller-dominant CVD implied aggressive market orders continued favoring the downside.
At the time of reporting, Ethena [ENA] traded around $0.1911 amid its price correction from its September highs, which extended a sequence of lower highs and lower lows.
Notably, the daily chart highlighted a sustained price retracement following ENA’s earlier rejection around the $0.2736 price region.
Subsequently, the token tested the $0.1870 support level before a slight reversal, sitting above this important support level that previously attracted demand.
Losing this support could likely extend the price pullback toward $0.1354, the next key support on the daily chart.
However, the latest daily candle printed a modest recovery, suggesting that ENA had not surrendered the $0.1870 support as it attempted a reversal.
The RSI indicator meanwhile stood at 43.29, below its moving average of 48.07.
Ultimately ENA would need to maintain the $0.1870 support for a short-term rebound toward $0.20 to emerge, otherwise the bearish technical structure would remain intact.
