TL;DR: Uniswap has switched on Aggregator Hooks in its web app and API across Ethereum, Base and Robinhood Chain, bringing outside liquidity sources into the v4 routing system.
Uniswap is no longer asking traders to choose between liquidity inside its own pools and prices available elsewhere. On Thursday, Uniswap Labs introduced Aggregator Hooks, a routing system that allows its v4 architecture to draw quotations from external decentralized exchanges.
The feature is live in the Uniswap web application and API on Ethereum mainnet, Base and Robinhood Chain. Seven outside sources were available at launch. Uniswap says those sources represent more than 90% of decentralized-exchange activity across the supported networks, a company-supplied measure rather than a guarantee of the best execution on every swap.
The technical approach is unusual. Rather than requiring traders to move into a separate aggregator product, Uniswap wraps external sources as v4 hooks that resemble liquidity pools to the routing engine. The router can compare new quotations block by block and build a route that includes both Uniswap and outside venues.
According to Uniswap, the resulting swap settles in one transaction and does not require another round of token approvals purely because the order touches external liquidity. That reduces visible friction for users, although network fees, slippage and smart-contract risks remain relevant.
A trader exchanging a thinly traded token might benefit from liquidity that would otherwise sit beyond the boundaries of a single application. For a liquid pair, the improvement could be smaller, particularly once execution costs are included. Aggregation is a tool for finding routes, not a promise that every trade will become cheaper.
Uniswap says swaps routed through Aggregator Hooks can contribute protocol fees that support UNI token burns. That gives the protocol an economic reason to capture order flow even when the actual assets are sourced elsewhere.
It also highlights a competitive tension in decentralized finance: liquidity is fragmented across many networks and trading systems, yet users increasingly expect applications to navigate that fragmentation automatically.
Developers using the Uniswap API can integrate the new routing functionality, while ordinary app users will see external liquidity included in eligible swaps. The actual effect on spreads and volumes will need to be measured in live trading rather than assumed from the launch announcement.
For Uniswap, the central strategic change is not another pool type. It is the attempt to make v4 an execution layer across rival venues without requiring the trader to know where each leg of a swap originates.
